People strategy

​Our ‘People Strategy 2019 to 2023’ articulates our vision for a workforce that is ready for the future. Through this strategy, we will continue to support the achievement of a shared purpose and vision of what is important to us and the Australian community.

Our changing world creates opportunities to improve the way we work. We are committed to building a strong organisational culture that is accountable and aligned, collaborative and integrated, as well as future oriented.

We will continue to deliver exceptional performance as we work to increase, improve and maintain markets, encourage agricultural productivity and innovation and support sustainable high-quality natural resources. The strategy identifies our priorities for the next four years to promote a positive workplace culture where we can successfully deliver our business objectives.

Diversity and inclusion

Our vision is to foster a workplace where employees feel included, valued, and that they can contribute and participate fully at work. We embrace the variety of experiences, skills and perspectives that people bring to the workplace and harness these to achieve our objectives.

Inclusion is everyone’s responsibility. Staff are expected to encourage an inclusive culture in their work areas. SES officers are expected to promote this strategy within their divisions and branches. Individuals are expected to embrace the variety of experiences, skills and perspectives that people bring to the department.

Our ‘Inclusion Strategy 2019 to 2021’ outlines how we will champion inclusion in the workplace. It demonstrates our strong commitment to embedding inclusion in all we do, to ensure every employee has the opportunity to contribute and bring their authentic self to work.

Reconciliation Action Plan 2017-2019

The department works to sustain the way of life and prosperity of all Australians. We are committed to ensuring Indigenous and non-Indigenous people continue to work together to increase reconciliation. Our reconciliation action plan aligns with our diversity strategy and aims to help us build and maintain beneficial relationships by respecting the contribution of Indigenous Australians and their communities.
