Coming to the Yorke Peninsula - ABARES Regional Outlook conference on 12 June
22 May 2014
Economic trends and regional impacts, commodity updates and a host of local issues will be on the agenda for ABARES Yorke and Mid North Regional Outlook conference next month.
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES), in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA), is holding a one day conference on 12 June.
The conference features leading private sector speakers and ABARES economists who will discuss commodity forecasts for agriculture, share international business experience, analyse key regional industries and explore local challenges such as weather and climate trends.
Mr Rowan Ramsey MP, Federal Member for Grey and Chair of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Agriculture and Industry will open the conference.
Sessions at the conference will explore the 'Global economy - local impacts', 'Primary industries - along the supply chain' and 'Business in a changing environment'.
ABARES acting Executive Director, Dr Kim Ritman, said the conference program was tailored to the region and attending the conference is valuable for anyone wishing to access the latest economic and scientific data and information for decision makers in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors.
“The Regional Outlook conferences are an essential part of our delivery of commodity forecasts and research results direct to rural and regional communities,” Dr Ritman said.
“Open to everyone, each conference delivers thought-provoking information, from local agricultural data and innovative business practices through to the global economic overview, while encouraging discussion on issues of economic viability, community vitality and environmental sustainability.
“Conference delegates can hear commodity forecasts, discuss industry trends, access information and make new contacts in their community that encourage new approaches to traditional issues.”
