Regional Outlook conference comes to Katherine this July

2 July 2014

Economic trends and regional impacts, commodity updates and a host of local issues will be on the agenda at the Katherine Regional Outlook conference on 10 July.

Katherine Regional Outlook is presented by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) in partnership with the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation and will be opened by Federal Member for Solomon, Ms Natasha Griggs.

The conference features leading private sector speakers and ABARES economists who will discuss agricultural commodity forecasts, share international business experience, analyse key regional industries and explore local challenges such as sustainable water and land.

Sessions will explore the 'Global economy - local impacts', 'Transformative agribusiness for the north', 'Effective regulation - efficient infrastructure' and 'Sustainable water and land - continuing culture.'

ABARES Executive Director, Karen Schneider, said the conference was open to everyone with the conference program tailored to the region.

“The Regional Outlook conferences are an essential part of ABARES delivery of commodity forecasts and research results direct to rural and regional communities,” Ms Schneider said.

“Each conference delivers thought-provoking information, from local agricultural data and innovative business practices through to the global economic overview.

“Conference delegates can hear commodity forecasts, discuss industry trends, access information and make new contacts in their community that encourage new approaches to traditional issues.

“Attending the conference is a valuable opportunity to access the latest economic and scientific data and information for decision makers in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors. It encourages discussion on issues of economic viability, community vitality and environmental sustainability.”
