Your contribution matters - farm surveys underway

27 February 2015

Growers and landholders across Australia are invited to contribute to three major farm surveys now underway, with officers from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) visiting regions from early March.

ABARES Executive Director, Karen Schneider, sought the involvement of Australian growers and irrigators in ABARES farm surveys.

“ABARES has been conducting farm surveys on behalf of the Australian Government for more than 30 years to inform the development of long-term plans to guide the future of our primary industries,” Ms Schneider said.

“Farm surveys have provided a broad range of information on current and historical economic performance of Australian farm businesses to producers, industry and governments and have aided decision making and policy development.

“I encourage participation across the sugar cane, irrigation and vegetable growing industries as your contributions can help target R&D and assist in industry planning, improving management practices and addressing impediments to growing business,” Ms Schneider said.

The three farm surveys—Australian Vegetable-Growing Industry survey, Australian Sugarcane Growers survey and Irrigation survey—start in March and will be conducted until the end of May 2015.

All information provided by survey participants remains confidential. ABARES will only release the results from the survey as farm averages for a given region or industry. The survey interviews are conducted on-farm by identified ABARES data collectors.
