Darwin to host Regional Outlook conference

 14 June 2016

Growing the northern beef industry, unlocking the agricultural potential of the north and investing in rural industries are just some of the topics on the agenda when the ABARES Regional Outlook conference comes to Darwin on 6 July.

Featuring speakers from ABARES, industry leaders and local producers from across the Territory, the conference is an important opportunity for stakeholders in the agriculture sector to meet and discuss the latest economic trends, commodity updates and opportunities for the agriculture sector.

ABARES Executive Director, Karen Schneider, said the one-day conference is a must for those working in primary industries in the Territory.

“With new, locally relevant economic data and analysis to help producers with business planning and forecasting, the Regional Outlook conference is a great way for delegates to update their industry knowledge and network with colleagues from businesses across the region,” Ms Schneider said.

Conference presentations will span topics including investment in northern development, the future of the live cattle trade, irrigated agriculture in the north, attracting young people into agriculture and limiting bird and pest damage to horticulture industries.

Speakers at the conference include:

  • Karen Schneider and Caroline Gunning-Trant, ABARES
  • Mark Coffey, Office of Northern Australia
  • Stephen Radeski, ANZ
  • Greg Browning, Bureau of Meteorology
  • Gerard Davis, AACo
  • Stuart Kemp, Northern Territory Livestock Exporters Association
  • Peter Stone, CSIRO
  • Martina Matzner, Acacia Hills Farm
  • Han Shiong Siah, Tropical Primary Products
