ABARES Regional Outlook conference is coming to Gippsland

19 September 2016

Investing in rural industries, future directions for the dairy sector and operating in a changing environment are the key issues on the agenda when Traralgon hosts the ABARES Regional Outlook conference on 5 October, with nil registration fees.

The conference’s opening address will be delivered by the Federal Member for Gippsland, the Hon Darren Chester MP, leading a line-up of keynote speakers from industry leaders and local producers, as well as ABARES.

ABARES acting Executive Director and conference speaker, Peter Gooday, said the one-day conference was a valuable event for those working in agricultural industries in the Gippsland region and beyond.

“It’s an opportunity for stakeholders in the agriculture sector to meet and discuss the latest economic trends, hear commodity updates and understand opportunities for the sector,” Mr Gooday said.

“With new, locally relevant commodity and economic data and analysis, the Traralgon Regional Outlook conference will help inform delegates with business planning and forecasting.”

The conference program will focus on the national and international issues affecting the state, free trade agreements, outlook and opportunities for the dairy sector including financing investment, weather and climate forecasting, the ACCC’s approach to agriculture supply chains and growing horticulture exports.

“Attending the conference is a great way for delegates to build on their industry knowledge and network with colleagues from businesses across the region,” Mr Gooday said.

Speakers at the conference include:

  • Peter Gooday and Peter Collins, ABARES
  • Michael Growder, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Noel Campbell, United Dairy Farmers of Victoria
  • Matt Watt, Fonterra
  • Scott Price, Rabobank
  • Tarini Casinader, Bureau of Meteorology
  • Mick Keogh, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
  • Rowan Paulet, Millring Pastoral
  • Emma Germano, Germano Produce.
