ABARES Regional Outlook conference is coming to Ararat
10 July 2017
Business case studies from agricultural innovators; climate adaptation; trade agreements; water security and increased productivity through digital technology are just some of the topics being discussed at a free conference in regional Victoria on 26 July.
Hosted by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES), the Ararat Regional Outlook conference will hear from local producers as well as ABARES economists and speakers from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Bureau of Meteorology, Birchip Cropping Group, GWMWater and Precision Agriculture.
Acting ABARES Executive Director and conference speaker, Peter Gooday, said the one-day conference was a valuable event for those working in agricultural and associated industries in regional Victoria.
“Regional Outlook conferences provide an opportunity for stakeholders in the agriculture sector to network and discuss the latest economic trends, hear commodity updates and learn more about emerging opportunities in the sector,” Mr Gooday said.
“With new, locally relevant commodity and economic data and analysis, the Ararat Regional Outlook conference will assist delegates in planning ahead, to understand the outlook for the sector, and where the opportunities and challenges lie.”
The conference – to be officially opened by Senator for Victoria, Bridget McKenzie – will focus on the national and international economic issues affecting the state, free trade agreements, increasing productivity with digital technology, weather and climate forecasting, the challenges of climate change and farming and raising sheep enterprise profits.
“Attending the conference is a great way for delegates to build on their industry knowledge and network with colleagues from businesses across the region,” Mr Gooday said.

- Peter Gooday and Rohan Nelson, ABARES
