Weekly update - 21 November 2019
Key issues
- During the week ending 19 November 2019 rainfall was restricted to isolated areas of southern, eastern and northern Australia.
- Across cropping regions, rainfall totals of between 1 to 10 millimetres were recorded across parts of northern Queensland. Little to no rainfall was recorded across remaining cropping regions in Queensland, and cropping regions in New South Wales. Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
- For the week ending 19 November 2019, maximum temperatures were 2°C to 12°C above average across large areas of Western Australia and parts of northern and eastern Australia.
- Ongoing high temperatures, coupled with dry and windy conditions has resulted in sustained very high fire danger levels, and have seen the ignition and continuation of numerous dangerous bushfires over the past week. Daily temperature anomalies in excess of 12°C have also led to harvest delays for this seasons winter crops, with the excessive heat leading to harvest bans across large areas of southern Australia.
- Over the next eight days, rainfall is likely to be restricted to parts of south-eastern and the far north of Australia.
- Across Australia’s cropping regions, the 8‑day rainfall forecast indicates that 5 and 15 millimetres are expected across parts of northern New South Wales and southern Queensland. Little to no rainfall is expected across remaining cropping regions.
- Water storage levels in the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB) decreased between 13 November and 20 November 2019 by 105 gigalitres (GL). Current volume of water held in storage is 9,706 GL which represents 38 per cent of total capacity. This is 24 percentage points or 3,084 GL less than at the same time last year.
- Allocation prices in the Victorian Murray Below the Barmah Choke decreased from $940 per ML on 14 November 2019 to $925 per ML on 21 November 2019.
- Allocation prices in the Victorian Murray below the Barmah Choke decreased from $950 per ML on 7 November 2019 to $940 per ML on 14 November 2019.

Temperature anomalies this week
For the week ending 19 November 2019, maximum temperatures were 2°C to 12°C above average across large areas of Western Australia and parts of northern and eastern Australia. In contrast, maximum temperatures were 2°C to 4°C below average across parts of south-eastern Australia and minimum temperatures were 2°C to 6°C below average across large areas of eastern and central Australia.

Rainfall forecast for the next 8 days
Over the next eight days, rainfall totals of between 5 and 25 millimetres are forecast for parts of south-eastern and the far north of Australia. Higher rainfall totals in excess of 25 millimetres are forecast for parts of north-eastern New South Wales, the far north of the Northern Territory and western Tasmania.
In cropping regions, rainfall of between 5 and 15 millimetres are expected across parts of northern New South Wales and southern Queensland. Little to no rainfall is expected across remaining cropping regions.
