Middle East live sheep exports RIS public consultation

The draft regulation impact statement (RIS) on live sheep exports to, or through, the Middle East during the Northern Hemisphere summer, is now available for public consultation on the department’s Have Your Say webpage.

The draft RIS proposes three options for regulating these exports from 2020 onwards, with the objective of reducing heat stress risk in sheep while supporting a sustainable live sheep export trade.

The department is seeking feedback on the economic, social and regulatory impacts and benefits of each proposed option.

The RIS will be available for public consultation until 5pm 3 February 2020.

The department will consider all feedback when developing the final RIS, which will make a policy recommendation to inform a decision by the Australian Government.

The department intends to complete the RIS process by March 2020.
