Russian ban on Australian agricultural produce
On 29 June 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree extending the Russian ban on specified agricultural products for an additional 18 months, to 31 December 2017. This is the second extension to the August 2014 Presidential Decree on the 'Application of Certain Special Economic Measures in order to protect the National Security of the Russian Federation' imposing bans on the import of specified agricultural products originating from a number of countries, including Australia, United States, EU member states, Norway and Canada. There has been no change to list of banned source countries.
The list of banned products remains largely the same, with some adjustments made to permit imports of certain products used in the production of baby food, which are certified as organic, have been approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation in accordance with its established procedure (yet to be established) and are within the volume of permitted imports of the specified products.
