Public consultation is now open on the Department’s draft review of heat and cold stress in Bos taurus cattle from southern Australia during long-haul export by sea.
The review specifically examines the export of 1,019,563 head of cattle on 214 voyages over five years from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2020 to determine the effect of heat and cold stress on the welfare of Bos taurus cattle during sea voyages of 10 days or more.
The department is inviting livestock exporters, animal welfare groups, producer groups and members of the public to provide their input via the Have Your Say platform.
Submissions should specify which section of the report is being addressed and include any evidence or data to support comments.
Consultation will be open for a period of 4 weeks, from 29 October to 26 November 2021.
The department will consider all feedback in finalising the review.
The department intends to complete the review in February 2022.
