Letter of transmittal

25 September 2012

Senator the Hon. Joe Ludwig
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
Parliament House

Dear Minister

I present the annual report of the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry for the year ended 30 June 2012.

As required by section 63 of the Public Service Act 1999 (the Act), the report has been prepared in accordance with the 'Requirements for annual reports' approved by the Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit.

I am pleased that the report notes progress during the year to achieve the department's two planned outcomes. The report also foreshadows portfolio activities for 2012–13.

I am satisfied that the department has taken all reasonable measures to minimise the incidence of fraud in our agency, and to investigate and recover the proceeds of fraud against our agency. The department has prepared fraud risk assessments and fraud control plans, and has in place fraud prevention, detection, investigation, reporting and data collection procedures and processes that meet the department's needs.

Under subsection 63(1) of the Act you are required to lay a copy of the report before each House of the Parliament on or before 31 October 2012.

I also take this opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of all departmental employees and their continuing commitment to supporting the government's objectives.

Yours sincerely

Conall O'Connell
