Land Management Practice Survey (LaMPS)

What is LaMPS?

The LaMPS collects information on a variety of land management practices undertaken by Australian agricultural businesses, including pasture and crop cultivation management, livestock management, pasture and vegetation management, fertiliser use, and soil management.

The Department of Agriculture has engaged the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to deliver the ongoing biennial LaMPS. The first survey was mailed to approximately 50 000 farm businesses in August 2012; this data was released on 28 June 2013. To access the results from the first survey, please visit the ABS LaMPS webpage. The second LaMPS survey will take place in 2014.

National Greenhouse Gas Inventory

The LaMPS also aims to improve the data and assumptions underpinning the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory. This will ensure that abatement generated from the Emissions Reduction Fund, as well as ongoing changes in land management practices, are reflected in Australia’s greenhouse gas accounts.
