2021 to 2024 Rural Financial Counselling Service program—successful applicants

Our Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS) program provides important services to Australian farmers, fishers, foresters and small related enterprises experiencing, or at risk of, financial hardship.

The Australian Government provides grant funding to regional organisations to deliver rural financial counselling services.

Selection process

On 28 April 2021, the Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management announced successful applicants to deliver services across 12 predefined service regions, from July 2021 to June 2024.

This grant process was merit-based, open and competitive. We received proposals from a competitive field of applicants. This allowed the government to select proposals that will strengthen this trusted service and drive better outcomes for clients.

All successful applicants will deliver their services in line with the new RFCS program logic.

Existing clients

This brand new funding round has a clear focus on delivering more for clients—targeted services, a more holistic service offering and new options for meaningful client-counsellor engagement.

If you are an existing client, you will not experience any disruption to the level of support you are currently receiving from the RFCS when the new program commences.

If you are concerned about potential changes in your region, please contact your local service provider for further information.

The Australian Government is investing over $61 million (GST exclusive) in the RFCS program over the next 3 years. This includes:

  • $3.75 million (GST exclusive) in 2021–22 for bushfire recovery financial counselling, as part of the National Bushfire Recovery Fund
  • an additional $5 million (GST exclusive) announced as part of the 2021–22 Budget to help RFCS providers manage higher fluctuating demand over the grant period.

The RFCS is jointly funded by the Australian, state and territory governments.
