Purpose

To advise all stakeholders of an errata to the Australian Standards for the Export of Livestock (ASEL) version 3.2. An updated version of ASEL 3.2 is now available online.

Key points

  • The department has identified minor publishing errors and standards that require additional clarification in ASEL 3.2.
  • An errata has been published online which details the amendments that have been made to ASEL 3.2.
  • The amendments are:
    • Clarification that ultrasound for pregnancy diagnosis of feeder and slaughter cattle and buffalo may be performed by registered veterinarians if the animal is too small to be manually palpated.
    • Clarification of pregnancy testing requirements for breeder cattle and buffalo voyages of less than 10 days or 10 days or more – a PREgCHECK (NCPD) Scheme accredited veterinarian is required for voyages of 10 days or more duration and, if an animal is too small to be manually palpated, an ultrasound diagnosis is required.
    • Deletion of redundant text in Standards 3.1.16, 5.2.3, 5.2.5, 5.3.7, 5.3.9, 6.3.5 and 6.5.4.
    • Deletion of redundant text in Table 26.
    • Addition of “Table 2 [deleted]” for consistency with other standards that have been removed.
    • Addition of missing words in Standards 5.3.3, 5.3.8, 6.5.3, and 6.9.6.
    • Correction of numbers referenced:
      • Reference to 3.1.15 in Standard 3.1.20.
      • Reference to Figure 6.
      • Reference to Standard 5 in 5.1.2, Appendix C b) iii) and vi) iii).
  • Exporters and Registered Establishment Occupiers should familiarise themselves with the amendments and update documents if applicable.

Instructions

  • Note the amendments in the errata available online. The online ASEL 3.2 has been updated.
  • If you have printed ASEL 3.2 from the website, ensure to update relevant standards using the errata.
  • If you have approved arrangement manuals and/or associated documents with references to any text that has changed, please update as per the errata.
  • If you have requested a hardcopy it will include these amendments.

Background

  • On 18 November 2021, the department published ASEL 3.2.
  • Following publication, stakeholder feedback raised an issue that required clarification in the text of some pregnancy testing standards. The department also found text that had been flagged for deletion but had not been removed in 8 standards, 5 missing words and 5 incorrect numbers. These issues have been rectified in the online versions of ASEL 3.2.
