IFN 17-19 - Amendment to the Imported Food Control Order
Issued: 1 October 2019
Purpose
The purpose of this notice is to advise importers and brokers about the outcome of the remake of the Imported Food Control Order 2019 (Order) which takes effect on 1 October 2019.
What has changed
From 1 October 2019 the previous Imported Food Control Order 2001 will ‘sunset’ and cease to be law. The remade Order enables the continued operation of the Imported Food Inspection Scheme.
The only change to the remade Order is the inclusion of a classification for surveillance food at subsection 5(6). The classification of surveillance food is as a result of amendments to the Imported Food Control Act 1992 and the remaking of the Imported Food Control Regulations 2019.
This change does not introduce new requirements for food importers or the way imported food is referred to the Imported Food Inspection Scheme.
The revised Order is published on the Federal Register of Legislation.
