The National Water Initiative (NWI) is Australia’s blueprint for water reform, with governments across Australia agreeing on actions to achieve a cohesive approach for managing, planning, pricing and trading Australia’s water resources.
Policy guidelines for the NWI were established to assist jurisdictions develop and implement NWI-consistent water planning and management arrangements. A series of modules were agreed to, to provide further guidance on specific issues.
Commonwealth and state and territory agencies engage with Indigenous people on water issues through their water planning processes. This module can help improve and build on these existing engagement processes to ensure inclusive approaches to water planning that support genuine consideration of Indigenous social, spiritual and customary objectives.
