Innovation

Innovation is at the forefront of biosecurity. It helps us improve the way we protect our nation from pests and disease outbreaks.

Biosecurity Matters keeps you informed about new technologies and ideas. You can learn how this helps us to tackle the most pressing biosecurity challenges.

In a recent newsletter, we explored the launch of a pilot to collect data from beekeepers without disturbing bee hives. The purpose was to find a harmful insect called varroa mite. This parasite could destroy Australia’s honeybee population. It could also pose extreme challenges to Australia’s food production.

Policies

Our biosecurity policies are the foundation of our efforts. Strong policy protects Australia from threats to our environment, economy, and way of life.

We recently updated our readers on the launch of the National Biosecurity Implementation Plan. It is part of the National Biosecurity Strategy. This forms our vision for a connected, strong and shared national biosecurity system.

In Biosecurity Matters you’ll learn about the latest policy updates and changes. This ensures you’re kept in the loop about the best biosecurity practices.

Border finds

When travelling to Australia it’s important to know what you can bring. You should always fill out your Incoming Passenger Card truthfully.

A recent attempt to get around our biosecurity laws resulted in four $5,500 infringement notices. They were given to different passengers across a 5-day period.

Biosecurity is a shared responsibility. We all have a part to play to protect Australia’s economy, environment, industries and communities from harmful pests, diseases and weeds.
