Agricultural Lending Data

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resources Economics and Sciences (ABARES) prepare annual reports and an interactive data dashboard on the level of lending to the agriculture sector. Reports are based on data collected by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. ABARES also analyse data from other sources including the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), the Regional Investment Corporation (RIC) and ABARES farm surveys.

The dashboard is designed to make it easier for users to access and visualise the information. Readers should access the APRA data (including historical data) via the dashboard, rather than from the printed tables in earlier reports.

The latest interactive data dashboard and reports after 2019-20 are available for download directly from ABARES.

* APRA has made revisions to the 2018–19 lending data based on updated information received from financiers. These revisions affect estimates of agricultural lending in Queensland, with flow-on effects for national-level results. Readers should access the APRA data (including historical data) via the ABARES data dashboard, rather than from the printed tables in earlier reports.

^ The Agricultural Lending Data 2017–18 report was amended in March 2020 to correct a typographical error under Farm debt levels.
