Bringing cats and dogs (and other pets) to Australia

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Cats and dogs can be imported to Australia under strict conditions designed to manage biosecurity risks. For the import conditions applicable to your cat or dog, view the step-by-step guides and the pre-export preparation calculator below.

You will not require a permit to import a cat or dog from New Zealand, however conditions apply.

Different conditions apply for the importation of a​ssistance dogs.

The pre export treatment date calculator below is provided as a guide only. To ensure compliance with the import conditions,

  • do not 'mix' the earliest and latest dates and
  • read in conjunction with the appropriate step-by-step guide.
