Farm Management Deposits Statistics

At 31 March 2026, the total holdings in the Farm Management Deposits (FMD) Scheme were around $5.93 billion.

FMD statistics for each quarter, broken down by state and territory, are summarised at the bottom of this page.

FMD statistics—detailed state/territory and industry totals

Financial institutions offering FMDs are required to report details of the FMDs they hold at the end of a month to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Reports must be submitted by close of business on the 10th calendar day of the following month. The department endeavours to release a summary of these statistics by the 15th calendar day of each month. The department cannot prepare a summary of the statistics until it has received returns from all relevant financial institutions.

Please Note:

  • From July 2020, the state/territory industry FMD accounts and holdings have been aggregated with the respective New South Wales industry FMD accounts and holdings where there are less than 20 accounts for privacy reasons, previously it was less than 5.
  • If you have undertaken any analyses on the original statistics, please be aware that these corrections may alter your calculations and therefore require amendments.
  • This excel spreadsheet shows the variations between the statistics originally published and the corrected statistics now available.

a The FMD statistics reports and figures for October 2017, November 2017, December 2017, January 2018, February 2018, March 2018 and April 2018 were revised in June 2018. One financial institution submitted revised returns for these months because some FMD holdings were missing when they initially lodged the returns, due to an oversight by the financial institution.

b The FMD holdings for the September 2014, December 2014, March 2015 and June 2015 quarters were revised in February 2016, following the lodgement from one financial institution of revised returns with corrected ANZSIC codes (industry types).

c March 2009 quarter figures have been adjusted to reduce duplication of holders who have more than one account and attribute them to different commodities.

d Figures for the states in the March 2007 quarter are showing an increase, while the total value of deposits have decreased. This is due to corrections made to previously incomplete state/industry data from some financial institutions.
