About Agriculture Biodiversity Stewardship Package

Australian agriculture depends on a biodiverse and well-managed natural resource base. Agricultural land managers play a key role in environmental management. They are responsible for managing 58% of our landmass.

The Agriculture Stewardship Package is working to develop market arrangements and kick start private investment in farm biodiversity and other sustainability opportunities.

Key partners are the Australian National University (ANU), National Farmers’ Federation and Natural Resource Management (NRM) organisations in our six pilot regions.

The Australian Agricultural Sustainability Framework

The National Farmers Federation is leading the development of the Australian Agricultural Sustainability Framework (AASF).

This work is funded through a $4 million grant provided as part of the Agricultural Biodiversity Stewardship Package.

The AASF is being developed to:

  • help communicate the sustainability status and goals of the Australian agricultural industry to markets and to the community.
  • provide a sector-wide approach to help agriculture stakeholders meet changing consumer expectations locally and overseas.
  • enable industry and government to support sustainability claims in related trade and market access negotiations,
  • help companies meet company Environmental, Social and Governance requirements (supply chain, finance, and investors) and informing the community.

Find out more about the AASF:
