EU- Australia Farming: One goal but many paths to sustainability

Authors: Jared Greenville

Overview

The Australian Mission to the European Union held a panel event on 31 March 2022. DAWE's Brussels post invited ABARES Executive Director Dr Jared Greenville to take part. This slide pack was shared during the panel event. It provides an overview of Australian agriculture's approach to sustainability.

Key Points

  • Approaches to sustainability vary between the EU and Australia, but both have common goals and have made significant efforts to ensure sustainable agricultural production.
  • Australia’s key strengths relate to working with the natural environment and not against it. This is fostered by a policy environment that lets market forces govern sustainable input and land use.
  • Australia’s agricultural innovation is key to improving sustainability outcomes for the sector.
