Purpose
To notify exporters that the Eligible Species List for non-viable seafood products eligible to be exported to China has been updated to include 3 additional Australian species.
Summary of key points
China’s eligible species list for non-viable seafood products from Australia has been updated (as of 2 January 2019) to include:
Metanephrops australiensis - Australian Scampi
Nototodarus gouldi - Gould’s Squid
Sillago bassensis - Southern School Whiting

Background
Following advice received from China during bilateral meetings in October 2017, a submission for the addition of 12 species with a history of trade prior to 2012 was presented for consideration to China’s General Administration for Customs of the Peoples' Republic of China (GACC) in May 2018.
On 2 January 2019 the list of non-viable seafood species eligible to be exported from Australia to China was updated on the GACC website. The department has not been formally notified of the update.
Since 2016, the department has made a number of submissions to China requesting the addition of seafood species to the eligible species list. Prior to January 2019, only two species requested in the January and April 2017 submissions, Ocean Jacket and Bight Redfish, had been added to the list.
The department is continuing to liaise with GACC regarding the status of the remaining species with a history of trade prior to 2012, requested for inclusion on the eligible species list. Further updates will be provided when available.
