Information

An unplanned service disruption to the Agriculture Import Management System (AIMS) is preventing clients from receiving direction outcomes to their registered email address.

Action

The department is investigating this issue as a priority. We will advise when this issue has been resolved.

All clients required to use the department’s Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system during this planned maintenance period.

Purpose

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise of Thailand Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes to their residue testing on imports of fresh fruit and vegetables scheduled to be implemented 1 August 2020.

These changes may result in additional costs, requirements and delays clearing the border.

Effective date for levy returns: 1 July 2020

From 1 July 2020, the research and development (R&D) component of the rice levy, will increase from $2.94 per tonne to $5.94 per tonne. The total rice levy rate will be $6.00 per tonne. It will apply to the bi-annual rice return for the levy period ending 31 December 2020 that is due by 28 January 2021 and onwards.

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is of interest to all vessel masters and shipping agents who represent international commercial and non-commercial vessels for the purposes of Australian biosecurity clearance.

What has changed?

The heightened vessel surveillance window for AGM is between January and May each year. The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) ceased its annual surveillance for managing the risks posed by the Asian Gypsy Moth (AGM) on vessels on
31 May 2020.
