The department's Agricultural Policy Division is the contact for issues concerning domestic organic policy matters.
Residue chemistry and laboratory performance and evaluation
The National Residue Survey (NRS) contracts the services of Australian and New Zealand laboratories to perform residue testing. The laboratories must have demonstrated capabilities in the specific chemical residue analyses that are required by export and domestic markets.
Plant product residue monitoring
Plant product residue monitoring is conducted as part of the National Residue Survey (NRS) by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry , through a grains residue testing program and three separate horticulture product residue testing programs.
Industry participation in these programs is voluntary and based on export and domestic market access and quality assurance objectives.

Metals in Meat and Eggs Survey 2009–10
In 2009–10 the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, through the National Residue Survey, surveyed a broad range of 67 routinely and non-routinely monitored chemical elements (metals) in six of its participating animal industries.
