Intergovernmental Agreement on Biosecurity Review

​​The Intergovernmental Agreement on Biosecurity (IGAB), which commenced in 2012, is an agreement between the Commonwealth, state and territory governments to strengthen the national biosecurity system.

It defines the roles and responsibilities of governments and outlines the priority areas for collaboration to minimise the impact of pests and diseases on Australia’s economy, environment and community.

National Biosecurity Committee

The National Biosecurity Committee in consultation with key stakeholders has developed a National Biosecurity Strategy to provide a strategic direction for Australia’s biosecurity system.

The National Biosecurity Committee (NBC) was formed on 1 July 2008 as a ministerial advisory committee to provide strategic leadership in managing national approaches to emerging and ongoing biosecurity policy issues across jurisdictions and sectors.
