Government/Industry Fertiliser Supply Working Group Communiqué:
Fertiliser Supply Working Group Meeting - 24 April 2026
The Government/Industry Fertiliser Supply Working Group met for the fourth time on 24 April 2026.
Members noted that urea volumes landed to date are consistent with the three‑year average and that supplies required for winter crop sowing are onshore or progressing through biosecurity processes.
Members welcomed recently announced commercial arrangements and government actions, including:
- the 250,000 tonne urea supply agreement between Incitec Pivot Fertilisers and PT Pupuk Indonesia
- Export Finance Australia underwriting arrangements for fertiliser shipments
- National Reconstruction Fund financing for critical supply chains, and
- Actions to streamline biosecurity clearances while maintaining safeguards.
Members noted these actions are expected to contribute materially to remaining seasonal demand.
Members also noted ongoing supply and price pressures affecting other inputs such as phosphorus and sulphur.
Members agreed to continue discussing alternate export opportunities, monitoring fertiliser supply, demand and price conditions, and to maintain close engagement with industry ahead of peak application periods.
