The National Management Group (NMG) for the National Red Witchweed Eradication Program met on 06 June 2025 and approved a revised Response Plan for 2025-26. The revised Response Plan will build upon the substantial advances made through this response to date and will deliver final eradication activities as well as Proof of Freedom surveillance.
The National Red Witchweed Eradication Program, led by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, has made significant achievements in the eradication of the weed from Australia, with 98% of impacted land being returned to production to date.
The NMG, comprised of the Queensland, New South Wales, Northern Territory and Commonwealth governments, Australian Cane Growers Council, Cattle Australia Limited, and Grain Producers Australia, expressed their thanks to Queensland for their efforts. Eradication efforts have been cost-shared by members of the NMG since 2015.
