The National Management Group (NMG) met on 22 September 2025 and agreed to standdown remaining eradication response activities under the Emergency Plant Pest Response Deed for tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV), effective on this day, based on the advice of the Consultative Committee on Emergency Plant Pests (CCEPP).
This decision does not mean all activities to manage ToBRFV have stopped. Governments and industry groups will continue to investigate ways to manage the risks and impacts of ToBRFV. This includes working with growers on best practices for on-farm biosecurity and continuing the urgent review of biosecurity requirements between states and territories to support growers and businesses in accessing Australian markets and control the spread of the virus.
The NMG thanked the growers, communities, industries, and governments in South Australia and Victoria for their ongoing efforts since ToBRFV was first found in Australia in August 2024.
As part of closing out the response, the NMG committed an additional $1.8 million to cover response activities delivered to date, including Owner Reimbursement Costs, bringing the total commitment of the national ToBRFV eradication program to $6.8 million. The South Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) and Agriculture Victoria will now complete the orderly standdown of response activities.
PIRSA and Agriculture Victoria will continue to work with property owners throughout the cessation of the response. More information on current activities, including movement controls is available at www.pir.sa.gov.au/tobrfv and agriculture.vic.gov.au.
