The Future Drought Fund (FDF) aims to improve drought and climate resilience. This includes economic, social and environmental resilience of Australian agriculture, communities and landscapes.
Monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) helps us understand how the FDF and its programs are achieving its aims.
The FDF provided strong initial investments in its first 4 years (2020 to 2024). The next 4 years present opportunities for enhanced outcomes.
To do this, the FDF is implementing a tailored, systems-based MEL approach. It focuses on understanding what works, why it works, and who benefits from it. The approach embeds an evaluative culture that values ongoing learning.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Framework
We’ve developed a new FDF MEL Framework (2024 to 2028) aligned with the Drought Resilience Funding Plan 2024 to 2028. It builds on the previous 2020 FDF MEL Framework and reflects lessons learned during the first funding plan (2020 to 2024).
The framework
- sets out how the FDF and its programs will be measured and evaluated
- supports measuring the FDF’s progress and achievements over time
- helps identify improvements for the future.
