This Market Access Advice replaces information provided in MAA1637, issued on 9 November 2016.
Effective immediately, exports of uncooked poultry meat, poultry meat products and eggs (excluding mechanically deboned meat (MDM)) to Papua New Guinea (PNG) can no longer be certified by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources.
This follows 17 November 2016 advice from PNG authorities explaining that their earlier advice regarding the lifting of the ban on these products was provided in error. PNG authorities have now advised that the ban remains in place and that, they will NOT be issuing import permits for Australian uncooked poultry meat, poultry meat products and eggs (excluding MDM).
The department understands that some exporters may have received import permits from PNG’s National Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Authority (NAQIA) and may have products on the water. Any exporters in this situation are asked to email Exports and provide information about affected shipments, including NAQIA import permit information and Australian export certification details.
The department is making representations on this matter and will advise exporters if the situation changes.
