Purpose
This Market Access Advice (MAA) is to update industry on new registration requirements by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) from 1 February 2023.
Summary of key points
- FSSAI has notified the department that it will implement new registration requirements from 1 February 2023 for all foreign food manufacturing facilities, including establishments and registered vessels processing fish and fish products for export to India.
- Under this requirement, FSSAI has requested the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) submit details of processing establishments (including registered vessels) that export fish and fish products to India for registration.
- In order to meet this requirement, the department has provided a list of all export registered manufacturing establishments and registered vessels eligible to export fish and fish products to India for registration with FSSAI.
- Although a list of establishments has been provided to FSSAI, the department has not yet received confirmation this list is accepted, and further information may be requested by FSSAI before approving establishments.
- Exporters are requested to exercise caution exporting fish and fish products to India where product will arrive on or after 1 February 2023 and should continue to work closely with their importers to ensure products will be accepted at border clearance.
- Further Market Access Advice will be published when updated information is available.
