AAO Renewal Information

Key features of the renewal process

  • There’s a section on the renewal form to update personal details, residency status and disclosure of conflict of interests.
  • If the applicant is renewing their appointment after a five year term, they must complete the renewal application form, undertake the Obligations of Third Party Authorised Officers training session and submit the certificate of completion with their application form. 
  • If the applicant is renewing their appointment after a one year term, they must complete the renewal application form and provide a certified copy of their Certificate IV (including units of competency).
  • The applicant must provide a new and current National Police Check (NPC) when renewing after a five year appointment.
  • Expired AAO identification must be returned when the new AAO identification card has been received.
  • AAO identification card must be returned if the applicant is no longer working as an AAO.

The renewal process

Twelve weeks before expiry, the AAO Coordinator will contact the AAO’s employer via email to let them know their appointment/s are coming to an end. The renewal form will be attached to the email for the AAO and their employer to complete.

Completed renewal forms and all the supporting documents (certified copies) should be emailed to the AAO Coordinator at aao@awe.gov.au.

If the applicant is no longer working as an AAO their employer should notify the AAO Coordinator by email and return the AAOs ID card to the address below.

AAO Renewal Form

Complete this form to apply for the renewal of the authorisation of an Australian Government Authorised Officer (AAO). The form can be used to renew authorisations expiring after five years or 12 months.
