Purpose

This Market Access Advice provides advice on minor changes to export certification for the export of edible honey, royal jelly and other apiculture products to Great Britain.

Summary of key points

From 1 November 2022, the United Kingdom’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) requires a new model certificate template to be issued by all countries for edible honey, royal jelly and other apiculture products.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has made this template model available to Australian exporters for manual certification. The certificate template number NGBA has not changed. However, the updated version number is 09/22.

Template NumberPrevious template title for GBNew template title for GB
NGBA (09/22)HEALTH CERTIFICATE FOR THE IMPORT OF HONEY, ROYAL JELLY AND OTHER APICULTURE PRODUCTS INTENDED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION TO GREAT BRITAIN, CHANNEL ISLANDS AND ISLE OF MANHEALTH CERTIFICATE FOR THE IMPORT OF HONEY, ROYAL JELLY AND OTHER APICULTURE PRODUCTS FROM NON-EU COUNTRIES

Exporters can contact the department’s Assessment Services Exports team at FoodExports@aff.gov.au to obtain a copy of the new NGBA (09/22) certificate template.

The information to be entered by exporters to obtain the certificate has not changed.

The other minor changes do not affect exporters. These changes feature on page 2 of the certificate. They are:

  • The title of European Union pieces of legislation has been shortened in two places.
  • References to countries with transitional import arrangements have been removed.

What do you need to do?

Exporters can submit applications for manual certification to the department’s Assessment Services Exports team at FoodExports@aff.gov.au. For further information on how to apply for a manual certificate for non-prescribed goods, please see the department’s webpage Application for a government export certificate for non-prescribed goods

Exporters must lodge any final applications using the (02/22) version of the NGBA by 5pm AEDT, 27 October 2022. This will ensure the department can process the application prior to 1 November 2022. Any manual assessment requests submitted after this time on the (02/22) version of the NGBA will not be accepted.

Trade to Northern Ireland

Trade to Northern Ireland will continue on existing European Union (EU) certificates, under the Northern Ireland Protocol agreed between the United Kingdom (UK) and the EU. The certificate template to export edible apiculture products to Northern Ireland and the EU is EUHGB (06/22).

Micor

The Manual of Importing Country Requirements (Micor) will be updated to reflect this market access advice. The department encourages users of Micor to subscribe to the Micor update service for a commodity specific email that lists changes that have been made in the preceding week.

The information provided in this advice is current at the time of writing and is intended for use as guidance only and should not be taken as definitive or exhaustive. The Commonwealth endeavours to keep information current and accurate, however, it may be subject to change without notice. Exporters are encouraged to verify these details with their importers prior to undertaking production/exports. The Commonwealth will not accept liability for any loss resulting from reliance on information contained in this notice.
