2013-14 - Wheat to Iran - Certifying Freedom from Striga spp

27 March 2013

Purpose

To inform industry and the Authorised Officers of changes to Phytosanitary requirements for Australia wheat exports to Iran and associated cases on the Manual of Importing Country Requirements (MICoR).

Background

Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) officers were provided a list of pests of quarantine concern to Iran during a meeting with the National Plant Protection Organisation of Iran in September 2012. This list identified five species of ‘Witch Weed’ (Striga species) as pests of quarantine concern to Iran.

DAFF Plant Biosecurity Australia has advised that all Striga spp. of quarantine concern to Iran are not known to occur in Australia.

Key Points

Australian consignments of wheat exported  to Iran are to be endorsed as free from Striga spp without the need to provide or cite area freedom certificates or laboratory certificates of analysis.

Instructions

Wheat for Consumption, please visit the DAFF website.

Wheat for stockfeed, please visit the DAFF website.
