2020-06 - Commercial Business Branch – Closure of departmental PO boxes

25 February 2020

Purpose

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise that the department will be closing a number of PO Boxes around the country and will be using a single primary address for the receipt of all departmental mail.

Summary of changes and key points

  • The department’s primary mailing address is now GPO Box 858 Canberra.
  • Please note the example address shown below

  • The GPO 858 address is now operational and entities are encouraged to use this new address, rather than existing PO Box addresses, as soon as possible.
  • All incoming mail and freight for a regional office must include the city or town in the address (as per the above example).
  • Any items addressed to PO Boxes after the closure dates listed below, will NOT be delivered to the department and will be returned to sender.

Background

Following a review of its mail and freight handling procedures, the department has been advised to consolidate the number of Post Office Boxes in use. A single primary address for the receipt of departmental mail will make it simpler for entities to contact the department by mail.
