2024-26: Horticulture Exports Program - Packing product post-treatment or Pest Free Area (PFA) product outside of the PFA

08 May 2024

Purpose

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry of the release of instructional material for packing product post-treatment or packing Pest Free Area (PFA) product outside of the PFA.

Summary of changes and key points

  • The Exports Policy: Management of plant export registered establishments has been amended to include requirements for packing horticulture product post-treatment or packing PFA product outside of the PFA.
  • A new Exports Reference: Performance standards – packing post-treatment or packing Pest Free Area (PFA) product outside of the PFA has been created to support this policy.
  • The policy applies to the packing of product that has already undergone a phytosanitary treatment or has come from a PFA. Packing refers to the sorting and grading of product and packing into the final packaging.
  • The policy may only be used where permitted by the protocol/trading partner.
  • The packing facility must be a registered establishment. Any facility wanting to utilise this function will be required to hold the function under their registered establishment. Facilities can apply for the function using the Digital Export Service.

Important: Please contact the Horticulture Exports Program prior to applying to discuss if this function is feasible for your facility.

Background

We have developed instructional material outlining the strict phytosanitary security requirements for pathways where horticulture product is packed after a phytosanitary treatment occurs, or where product from a PFA is packed outside of the PFA.
