2024-41: Plant Exports - Sustainable Trade Funding Taskforce – Have Your Say survey

02 July 2024

Purpose

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry that the Sustainable Trade Funding Taskforce has released a Have Your Say survey on Enabling Agricultural Exports: A sustainable funding model.

Summary of changes and key points

  • We are advising export stakeholders of their opportunity to input into the development of the sustainable funding model.
  • An online survey has been published aimed at canvassing initial views from export stakeholders on fundamental aspects that should be considered in the development of the funding model.
  • Export stakeholders can access the Have Your Say survey.
  • The survey will be open until 7 July 2024.

Background

Australia’s agricultural industries are predominantly export trade focussed. Activities undertaken by us support the ongoing success of our agriculture export industries – valued at almost $83 billion in 2022-23 ($1.6 billion weekly).

Our funding model is not operating as envisaged and has not kept pace with the cost of delivering export regulatory and non-regulatory services. The expectations of our trading partners and consumers overseas are changing and becoming more complex.

Further, there is additional demand from Australian exporters for our services, both of which are placing pressure on sustainability of current funding arrangements.

The Sustainable Trade Funding Taskforce will be developing a new sustainable funding model to address these concerns, with a key focus on ensuring export industry participants are able to provide their views and perspectives on the current model, and what they envision a future model to include.

Whilst the Have Your Say survey is open until 7 July, the taskforce is also happy to directly receive submissions beyond this date.
