2024-60: Horticulture – New market access for plums to Vietnam

13 September 2024

Purpose

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise of new protocol requirements for the export of plums to Vietnam.

Summary of changes and key points

  • Market access has been granted for plums (Prunus salicina and Prunus domestica) to Vietnam.
  • The protocol includes phytosanitary requirements for the export of plums from Australia to Vietnam and has been published in the Manual of Importing Country Requirements (Micor).
  • The protocol requires accreditation for farms and packhouses for the Vietnam market.
  • Farms and packhouses who indicated interest in sending plums to Vietnam in Summerfruit Australia export registration system during this season’s Accredited Property online registration process will be subject to pre-season or in season audit by us.
  • Those farms and packhouses no longer wanting to participate can withdraw from the plums to Vietnam export market by formally advising Horticulture Exports within 7 days from publication of this IAN.

Background

In September 2024, we finalised a new protocol pathway for plums to Vietnam, an addition to already established summerfruit access for peaches and nectarines.

Farms, packhouses and treatment facilities intending to export plums to Vietnam must be accredited or registered with us, prior to export.

Countries with protocol markets have specific requirements for importing Australian produce.

Specific market requirement

Export pathway for plums to Vietnam are:

  • Accreditation of all farms and packhouses; registration of cold treatment and irradiation treatment facilities.

Exporter responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the exporter to meet the requirements of the protocol.

The protocol is available in the 'Documents' section of the Manual of Importing Country Requirements (Micor).

To register for Micor, go to the registration webpage, complete all fields and then click ‘Submit’. You will be provided with your login details by email.

Contact information

If you have any questions regarding this IAN, please email Horticulture Exports.
