Who does this notice affect?
This notice is of interest to importers of uncooked prawns that have been breaded, battered or crumbed, as well as associated industry participants and retailers.
What has changed?
The inspection rate for consignments of uncooked prawns that have been breaded, battered or crumbed will increase from 25% to 100% from 00:00:01 hours (Australian eastern daylight savings time) on 22 March 2017. All goods arriving from this time will be subject to a secure-seals intact direction and inspection regardless of the loading date at the port of origin.
Importers may choose to export the goods if they do not wish to have them inspected. Interference with the goods prior to inspection by a biosecurity officer will result in a direction to export being issued and possible civil or criminal prosecution.
Import permit holders will be advised of changes to their import permits to reflect the increased inspection rate.
