28-2020 - ‘Have Your Say’ in the review of the 2019-20 Brown marmorated stink bug season

24 February 2020

Who does this notice affect?

Stakeholders in the import and shipping industries—including master consolidators, freight forwarders, treatment providers, importers and customs brokers—associated with importing goods that require increased biosecurity intervention during the 2019-20 Brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) risk season.

Background

In response to the rapid expansion of BMSB throughout Europe and North America, the department implemented heightened seasonal measures to manage the risk of BMSB from entering and establishing in Australia during the 2019-20 BMSB season.

The heightened biosecurity measures apply to goods and/or vessels from target risk countries from 1 September 2019 and that arrive in Australian territory by 31 May 2020 (inclusive). The 2019-20 BMSB seasonal measures are located on the BMSB webpage.

Have Your Say

The department is inviting industry to provide feedback via a ‘Have Your Say’ online survey as part of the review of the 2019-20 BMSB risk season.

Feedback collated from the ‘Have Your Say’ online survey will review the 2019-20 BMSB risk season and may be considered for improvement for the 2020-21 season.

The online survey is now open, and will close on Sunday, 15 March 2020.
