3 June 2025
Who does this notice affect?
This notice is of relevance to importers, manufacturers, customs brokers, agents and associated biosecurity industry participants involved in the importation of new and used/aged oversize tyres from the European Union and Brazil.
What has changed?
The department has been made aware of the restrictions of s-methoprene usage in the European Union and Brazil.
Background:
Since 1 February 2025, the department requires solid s-methoprene slow/sustained release chemical formulation (such as a briquette, pellet, or pouch/sachet) to be placed in each unwrapped oversize tyre that gets imported into Australia.
Since this import requirement has come into effect, we have been made aware of restrictions in the European Union and Brazil on using s-methoprene of a certain strength and effectiveness.
How is the department responding:
We are investigating this issue and are currently working with affected importers who are not able to comply with the current conditions. If you believe you will be affected by the European Union and/or Brazil’s s-methoprene restrictions, please contact the department via the email address in the ‘Further information’ section.
