6 June 2025
Who does this notice affect?
Those in industries reliant on grain, importers and customs brokers, logistics and storage facilities, approved arrangement holders, processing and manufacturing facilities, and plant and animal related peak industry bodies.
What has changed?
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry will host an in-person workshop in Canberra on Wednesday 27 August 2025 to help industry better understand and prepare for the requirements of importing bulk whole grain into Australia.
Demand for imported grain is expected to rise, especially in response to changing climate conditions. During previous high-demand periods such as droughts, many importers have faced delays or disruptions due to lack of preparedness for Australia’s strict biosecurity requirements. The workshop aims to address this by supporting proactive industry engagement.
Participants will hear from a cross-section of departmental staff and gain a clearer understanding of:
- The biosecurity risk assessment and import permit process
- Transport, storage and handling requirements
- Compliance obligations and inspection procedures
- End-to-end import pathway expectations
When and where
- Wednesday 27 August 2025
- 09:30 am – 03:30 pm AEST
- Conference Room (Ground Level), Agriculture House, 70 Northbourne Avenue, Canberra ACT 2601
We strongly encourage in-person attendance to gain the full benefit of the day’s interactive format, including scenario-based activities and group discussions with departmental staff, however an online option will be available for those who cannot attend the workshop on the day.
