Who does this notice affect?
Biosecurity fumigation stakeholders, including overseas government agencies and industry treatment providers (both in Australia and pre-border), shipping, freight, and logistics companies, peak industry bodies and chemical manufacturers.
What has changed?
The department invites you to provide feedback on the draft Ethyl formate fumigation methodology via our Have Your Say platform. Public consultation is open from Thursday 29 May and closes at 5 pm AEST, Friday 20 June.
Ethyl formate, used in combination with carbon dioxide, is a promising alternative to the widely used fumigant, methyl bromide. We have assessed its efficacy for the treatment of brown marmorated stink bug on import pathways.
We are now working towards implementing this fumigant as an approved biosecurity treatment. To support this, a draft treatment methodology has been developed, and we are seeking your feedback.
To review the draft methodology and share your views, visit our Have Your Say platform.
