Who does this notice affect?
Importers and brokers of beef and beef products from the United States of America and Canada.
What has changed?
On 24 July 2025, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry published its final review for expanded market access for fresh beef imports from the United States (Fresh (chilled or frozen) beef and beef products for human consumption).
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry published its final review report of Fresh (chilled or frozen) beef and beef products for human consumption from Canada on 13 February 2025 and the department has now completed the remaining steps of the assessment.
Impacted goods include:
- Fresh (chilled or frozen) beef and beef products exported from the United States
- Fresh (chilled or Frozen) beef and beef products exported from Canada
Import conditions have been established and can be found in the 'Unretorted meat' case in BICON - Australian Biosecurity Import Conditions.
An import permit must be obtained prior to importation.
