399-2025: New ‘System notifications’ webpage for IT outages relating to biosecurity import systems going live on Friday 12 December 2025

28 November 2025

Who does this notice affect?

All Biosecurity Industry Participants subscribed to receive Import Industry Advice Notice notifications from the department.

All Biosecurity Industry Participants who utilise / engage with the departments import-related IT systems for the management of imported cargo, conveyances and inspection booking services, including those who subscribe to receive email notifications for departmental Import Industry Advice Notices.

What will change?

From Friday 12 December 2025, biosecurity import system outage notifications will no longer be published as Import Industry Advice Notifications (IIANs) on the department’s existing IIAN webpages. Instead, these notifications will move to a new dedicated ‘Systems notifications’ webpage on the department’s website from Friday 12 December 2025. The process and requirements to subscribe to receive these email notifications is also changing – further details below.

What is driving this?

The department recognises the importance of ensuring that Biosecurity Industry Participants can access and locate information relating to changes within the biosecurity import space (via IIANs) in a seamless process. Separating IIANs on broader import-related topics from biosecurity import system outage notifications ensures clients have easy access to notifications which are relevant to them, more efficiently. This change also aligns more closely with existing processes currently implemented by the department’s exports services, which separate broader export industry topic notifications from export system outage notifications.

How will notifications and email subscription services change for biosecurity import system outages?

From Friday 12 December 2025:

  • Biosecurity import system outage notifications will be published on a new dedicated webpage (‘System notifications’) – details of this webpage will be provided via a subsequent IIAN when the new service goes live
  • Biosecurity Industry Participants seeking to receive email notifications relating specifically to biosecurity import system outages will need to subscribe to this new service. This can be completed now via the department’s subscription centre https://subscribe.agriculture.gov.au/subscribe – under the ‘Import News’ Category, select ‘Import system notifications’.

Until Saturday 31 January 2026 (inclusive):

  • Biosecurity Industry Participants who are subscribed to receive email notifications for IIANs will continue to receive notifications relating to biosecurity import system outages, in addition to IIANs relating to broader importing topics. This will provide additional time for Biosecurity Industry Participants to sign up to receive notifications relating to biosecurity import system outages before these notifications completely transition to the ‘Import system notifications’ subscriber list on Sunday 01 February 2026.

From Sunday 01 February 2026:

  • Email notifications associated with biosecurity import system outages will only be sent to subscribers of the ‘Import system notifications’ service via the department’s subscription centre.
  • Biosecurity Industry Participants who have not subscribed to receive ‘Import system notifications’ via the subscription centre will not receive biosecurity import system outage email notifications.

Management and retention of notices relating to biosecurity import system outages on the department’s website

The following applies to IIANs and notices relating to biosecurity import system outages only:

IIANs published between Wednesday 1 January 2025 to Friday 12 December 2025

  • Will remain on the department’s website in their respective locations

IIANs published prior to Wednesday 1 January 2025

  • Will be removed from the department’s website/respective IIAN webpages

New import system notifications published from Friday 12 December 2025

  • Will be published on the ‘System notifications’ webpage and remain on the department's website for 12 months from the date of publication. Details of the new webpage will be provided in a subsequent IIAN.

Management of IIANs on broader importing topics

There will be no change to future IIAN publications and email subscription processes for IIANs relating to other departmental work, changes and topics within the biosecurity importing space – these IIANs will continue to be published at their usual location, available on the department’s website: https://www.agriculture.gov.au/biosecurity-trade/import/industry-advice.

Existing subscribers of the department’s email notification services for IIANs (relating to non-import IT outage notifications) will continue to receive notifications as normal.

Further information

The department will publish additional IIANs relating to the new webpage and subscription process both prior to, and following the launch.
