Who does this notice affect?
Importers of goods that are for all purposes other than direct use in livestock as well as importers of goods for all animal related purposes, and their customs brokers, freight forwarders, and relevant industry bodies.
What has changed?
The department is introducing four new standard permits. Further information regarding standard permits can be found on the department website: Standard permits for biological products.
Importers currently utilising several standard and non-standard permit pathways may will now be eligible and benefit from the new conditions. A new standard permit will be available for each end use and packaging specification listed below.
They are:
- goods for Animal related purposes
- retail ready goods for Animal related purposes
- goods not permitted for livestock
- retail ready goods not permitted for livestock
These standard permits will allow importation of a greater number of department’s approved low-risk ingredients. The listed approved ingredients for each pathway are available on the department’s website.
Any goods that can meet the listed conditions may be imported with a standard permit. Specific manufacturers and product names will not be listed. Please note, all conditions of the standard permit must be met, including the presentation of a manufacturer’s declaration for clearance upon arrival in Australia.
Goods not permitted for livestock are not allowed to be imported for consumption by livestock, in‑vivo use in livestock, or use on livestock. Livestock means any domestic or domesticated animal including bovine (including buffalo and bison), ovine, porcine, caprine, equine, poultry and bees raised for food or in the production of food. The products of hunting or fishing of wild animals shall not be considered part of this definition.
Goods permitted for animal related purposes may be imported for animal consumption or any animal‑related applications. This includes uses in, on or by livestock.
This does not affect existing import permits.
