Who does this notice affect?
Stakeholders associated with the movement of and/or biosecurity clearance of sea freight containers imported into Australia that are destined for transit through or unpack in rural locations.
What has changed?
The department invites you to share your feedback on the proposed Postcode Classification and Rural Movement Policy and the revised postcode classifications used to determine biosecurity intervention requirements for imported sea containers.
Public consultation via our Have Your Say platform is open from 2 November to 27 November 2026.
The proposed policy aims to:
- introduce a nationally consistent, evidence-based approach to managing rural destination and rural transit pathway risks,
- improve how postcode classifications are assessed and applied across Australia and provide a new Postcode Classifications Map as the authoritative source of classification information for industry to support compliance and declaration requirements.
To review the proposed policy and share your feedback, visit our Have Your Say platform.
