Who does this notice affect?
First point of entry (FPOE) operators, vessel operators, shipping agents, importers, brokers and others.
What has changed?
The biosecurity FPOE determination for the Port of Cairns has been amended - Biosecurity (First Point of Entry—Port of Cairns) Determination 2019.
As a result, the following new biosecurity entry points (BEPs) have been added for vessels other than non-commercial vessels and passenger vessels, and waste:
- Fitter’s Wharf
- Sheet Pile Wharf
- Floating Wharf
- Jardine Wharf
- Endeavour Wharf
Jardine Wharf and Endeavour Wharf have also been added as BEPs for general goods.
The BEP BSE Cairns Slipways has been removed from the FPOE determination as it is no longer operational.
Permission must be obtained from the department prior to any arrival at Port of Cairns that is not permitted by the FPOE determination.
It is the obligation of the person in charge of a vessel to ensure that the vessel complies with the relevant FPOE determination. Operators and other stakeholders should consult relevant FPOE determinations to ensure that their proposed vessel or goods movements are compliant with the current determinations.
Please follow the link to determination provided above. Determinations can also be found via the search tool on the Federal Register of Legislation website.
